Shark Tagging Workshop in Aceh Jaya

How do you tag a shark? That’s what a group of fishers in Aceh Jaya learned in a two-day workshop on 16-17 August 2023. The workshop was part of a conservation project led by the University of Oxford, supported by the UK Biodiversity Challenge Fund and in collaboration with IPB University and IBSF. The fishers were trained to use conventional tags to tag endangered species. The tags will provide valuable data on shark migration, distribution, and behavior, which will help protect these amazing animals and their habitats. Prior to fisher training we held training for trainers includes government and NGO partners to use G5 tags and electronic tags (P-SAT Tags) to track shark movements and behavior in their project sites.
